Home Decor newbie

echino
I can’t remember the time I actually took the time to style my home. I had a few artwork here and there, but in an effort (or is it lack of effort?) to not drill holes into the wall, I would just lean the frames on the wall from the floor (hideous yes, I was in my early twenties and didn’t know any better). So after playing Sims and other social network games where I had to decorate a restaurant, a barn or a castle…I feel like I’m ready to do it in real life. It helped too that I watched a bunch of “Clean House” and other HGTV shows while staying home with my daughter. Now I can’t imagine my life without interior design. It’s such a time-consuming (or is it money-consuming?) activity and with so many choices for decorations, accents, artwork etc. When do you know when the work is done? When I look at designs, I know immediately which colors I am drawn to (pinks, yellows, blues, purples…) which I think drives my husband nuts. He feels like we’re about to live in Candyland; I had to reassure him that I know colors and show him my proof: my handbags and other handmade creations where the colors complement each other. If I had my way, I’ll have a royal blue front door and a bright yellow armchair with plenty of purple freesias in vases and a really bright and big artwork made from an Echino fabric. My favorite stores to browse is Pier 1 Imports, Cost Plus World Market and Pottery Barn.

Drew, you are the first quarterly winner of our drawing! We’re sending Drew a gift card to her favorite cinema! There are lots of changes happening to Shopperanza. One of them is that I will be focusing more on books because I have to write about what I know most…and that would be books! Second, I will be using some new technology called Liferay so that my site can be more community-friendly. I will continue to feature moms, so keep reading!

Book Review: That Said (new and selected poems)

That Said: New and Selected PoemsThat Said: New and Selected Poems by Jane Shore

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I was very surprised how good this collection was. Usually, poetry sort of loses me, perhaps I don’t really try to savor every word, but I try to comprehend the meaning or purpose too quickly instead of relishing how the words roll off, tumble and get absorbed. This collection fulfills my need to get to the point of it while offering beautiful lines that I can ponder on and relish. I really enjoyed this book immenseley. One star off because there were quite a few that didn’t keep me spellbound. Still a very, very good read for those who want more out of what a poem should be.

Book Review: Get Yourself Organized Project

The Get Yourself Organized Project: 21 Steps to Less Mess and StressThe Get Yourself Organized Project: 21 Steps to Less Mess and Stress by Kathi Lipp

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Finally, a book about people who don’t necessarily love to organize, but want to be for the sake of their sanity. This is the first time I read a book where good enough is exactly the goal. I appreciated the good tips like “Wait for the path to appear” meaning plan the organizational setup around the behavior of the people. There are lots more tips in this book that really focuses on just getting the job done and not having to go the Martha Stewart route. I also like the fact that it’s short and to the point–there aren’t a lot of real-life tidbits from other “real” people because, really, how real do we have to know about how junk and clutter accumulates in our lives? This is a cool book for those who just want to get it done without making it too complex or hard to maintain.
